Youth Works and WorkFirst

Pierce County Housing Authority is in a partnership with Youth Works through Private Industry Council/WorkSource.

Youth Work’s mission is to “promote the virtue of work and the ethic of social responsibility.” This is accomplished by placing young adults, ages 18-21, into a work site such as PCHA for entry-level employment. Youth Works provides all wages including Labor and Industry liability; on the job training is provided at the work site. Everybody wins from the Youth Works program. The work site gains entry-level manpower at no cost to them. The worker learns job specific skills and gains work experience. The community benefits from the trainee’s development into a successful worker with the skills to find and keep employment.

Youth Works can be reached at:

PCHA is currently involved in helping its community by taking an active role in the WorkFirst (welfare) program.

WorkFirst includes the programs WEX (work-experience) and CJs (community jobs).

Through these programs, PCHA provides low income participants with on the job training. The participant gains the skills needed to obtain gainful employment. PCHA and WorkFirst are working together to provide working solutions. Types of employment necessary at PCHA are Office Assistants, Painters, and Apartment Maintenance Technicians. They are just a few of the wonderful jobs here at PCHA.

Call your WorkFirst Case Manager at your local DSHS Office for additional information on the WEX and Community Jobs Programs. For more information about WorkFirst visit their website at http://www.wa.gov/dshs/.
